A British schoolgirl's dream holiday in Thailand has turned into a nightmare after a vicious monkey attack left her fighting a severe infection in hospital.
The 14-year-old, from Lancashire, was mauled by the aggressive primate while walking near a resort on the popular tourist island of Koh Chang. The animal sank its teeth deep into her leg, causing devastating injuries.
Her mother, Karen Brooks, recounted the horrifying moment: "It was utterly terrifying. This monkey just launched itself at her and locked its jaws onto her leg. The violence was shocking and completely unprovoked."
The attack has left the teenager with a gaping wound requiring extensive surgery. Doctors are now battling to prevent the spread of infection from the bite, which could lead to catastrophic complications.
Local authorities have confirmed they are investigating the incident and attempting to locate the aggressive monkey. This alarming attack raises serious concerns about wildlife management in tourist areas and the safety of visitors to Thailand's tropical islands.
The family is urging other travellers to exercise extreme caution around wildlife and to seek immediate medical attention following any animal bite in tropical regions.
