British Man Dies After Hair Transplant in Istanbul

A 38-year-old British man has died after falling ill during a hair transplant procedure in Istanbul. Martyn Latchman, from Milton Keynes, was undergoing a £1,500 operation at Dr Cinik clinic when he became unwell during the preparatory phase.

Latchman, a former teacher who left a 16-year career in education last year to become a defence contractor, was transferred to an intensive care unit at a nearby hospital but died later that day. Turkish media reported that police have launched an investigation.

The clinic, whose former clients include ex-England footballer Rio Ferdinand, said it was not known why Latchman fell ill. In a statement, Dr Cinik expressed deep sadness and confirmed that all necessary medical evaluations, including blood work, chest X-ray, and ECG, had been carried out before the procedure.

Latchman had previously undergone a successful hair transplant at the same clinic last summer. The clinic denied reports that he died during the operation, stating that the incident occurred before the procedure began.

His body has been repatriated to the UK. A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Turkey and are in contact with the local authorities.”

Tributes have been paid on social media, with family and friends remembering Latchman as an inspiration. The clinic, which claims to have performed over 70,000 transplants, said the matter is under judicial investigation.
