Avalon Waterways and Scenic Tours have been named the best river cruise lines in a new survey by Which?, while Shearings Holidays ranked bottom. The consumer group surveyed over 1,700 passengers across 17 companies, rating experiences in nine categories including customer service, cabins, food, and value for money.
Avalon Waterways, with an average nightly price of £194, achieved an 82 per cent customer satisfaction score. Passengers gave five-star ratings in five categories, particularly praising the cabin design where beds face the water. Which? described the US-based line as offering 'high-end, all-inclusive cruises at affordable prices'.
Scenic Tours also scored 82 per cent, with five stars for customer service, dining, and port excursions. The Australian brand, averaging £250 per night, was noted for its butler service and 'absolutely first class' staff. Which? said it is 'one of the most expensive' but offers a 'brilliant cruise' for those willing to pay.
APT Luxury River Cruises achieved a 76 per cent satisfaction score, with an average price of £150 per night. Which? highlighted its all-inclusive nature, including meals, drinks, tips, and excursions. One passenger described the experience as 'interesting, stimulating, with very good menus and drinks'.
