Ryanair's hand luggage rules have become increasingly strict, with new dimensions limiting small personal bags to 40cm x 30cm x 20cm. Ground staff now receive bonuses for spotting oversized bags, making compliance essential to avoid last-minute fees of £40 to £60 at the gate.
Fortunately, travel experts at The Independent have identified an affordable solution: Primark's quilted underseat cabin bag. Priced at just £12, it combines budget-friendliness with a generous interior, earning a spot in the publication's review of the best hand luggage bags.
Travel expert Alessia Armenise tested the bag and reported: 'It fits a good amount of belongings – I packed two full summer outfits, a pair of flats, a medium-sized washbag, chargers, socks, and other accessories.' However, she noted it lacks a dedicated laptop pocket and a shoulder strap, offering only hand straps.
For those willing to spend a bit more, the Equator X bag, priced at £29, also meets Ryanair's restrictions. Measuring 40cm x 20cm x 25cm, it features a padded laptop sleeve, hidden pocket for valuables, and two compartments with compression belts.
Ryanair currently allows one small cabin bag (40cm x 30cm x 20cm) to be placed under the seat. Passengers needing extra baggage can purchase priority boarding to bring a second 10kg bag (55cm x 40cm x 20cm) for the overhead locker.
