A British backpacker has gone missing while jogging near a historic tomb in Peru, leaving authorities and loved ones deeply concerned. The 24-year-old, identified as Harry Greaves, was last seen on Sunday morning near the Tombs of Sillustani, a renowned archaeological site.
Greaves, who had been travelling through South America, reportedly left his hostel in Puno for a routine jog but never returned. His belongings, including his passport and money, were found untouched in his room, heightening fears for his safety.
Desperate Search Efforts
Local police, along with volunteers, have launched an extensive search operation around the remote area. The region, known for its rugged terrain and high altitude, poses significant challenges for rescuers.
Greaves' family back in the UK have been notified and are working closely with the Foreign Office. His father described him as an "experienced traveller who wouldn’t take unnecessary risks".
Tourist Hotspot with a Dark Side
The Tombs of Sillustani, while a popular tourist attraction, are located in an isolated area with limited surveillance. Authorities have warned visitors to remain cautious, especially when exploring alone.
This incident follows several other disappearances of foreign travellers in Peru in recent years, raising questions about safety measures for tourists in remote locations.
