Andy Murray's hotel wins top award after retirement

Andy Murray has added another trophy to his collection, but this time it has nothing to do with tennis. The double Wimbledon champion's hotel, The Cromlix, which he co-owns with his wife Kim, was named the best independent hotel with fewer than 50 rooms at an industry ceremony.

Award win for The Cromlix

The hotel, located near Dunblane where Murray was raised, claimed the prize at the 2026 Independent Hotel Show Awards. The awards celebrate exceptional hotels, emerging talent in hospitality, and superior design, highlighting the creativity and distinction across the UK's independent hotel sector.

The Cromlix House dates back to the Victorian era, when it was built as a private residence. It became a hotel in 1981, before closing in the early 2010s. It reopened in 2014 after Murray acquired it, and he and his wife took direct operational control in 2023. The property now holds five-star status.

Family connections and hands-on roles

Murray's ties to The Cromlix run deep. His grandparents celebrated their silver wedding anniversary there in 1982, and the family has since marked numerous birthdays and weddings at the venue, including Murray's own ceremony in 2015. His brother Jamie also held his wedding there in 2010.

While Sir Andy is the public face of the establishment, Kim takes a more hands-on role, involving herself in details from menu typography to interior styling.

Other winners at the ceremony

At the same ceremony, held in partnership with Preferred Hotels and Resorts, The Grand in York won the title of best independent hotel with 50 rooms or more. Brenda Collins, EVP Europe at Preferred Hotels and Resorts, said: "It was wonderful to see the amazing range of independent hotels shortlisted and congratulations to all the winners."
