American TikToker Reveals UK Customs She 'Couldn't Live Without'

A US content creator who moved from America to the UK has shared her favourite British customs that she says she 'couldn't live without' in a series of viral TikTok videos.

Posting under the handle @Yorkshireyank, the American expat opened up about her experiences living in Britain and detailed what she would genuinely miss if she ever had to leave the country.

Practical UK Discoveries

In one video captioned 'Things I would miss', the creator highlighted several everyday British features that have won her over.

She expressed particular appreciation for having her washing machine in the kitchen: 'I actually like doing laundry in my kitchen. Why? I have all the counter space. It's not crammed into a little room.'

Another practical discovery that impressed her was the British electrical socket design. 'I actually like the fact that you can turn off a socket. It makes sense because you do not have electricity running to a live socket. You can protect it. Why did we never do this in the States?'

The content creator also praised British plumbing, noting: 'I love the power showers here. Your water is always hot.'

Healthcare and Tea Culture Praise

Beyond practicalities, the American reserved special praise for two iconic British institutions.

She spoke glowingly about the National Health Service: 'I could never do without the NHS. The NHS is a magnificent beast, but it is truly desperately needed.'

But perhaps her most heartfelt appreciation was reserved for British tea culture. 'And finally, I absolutely love British tea culture. If I ever went anywhere else, I'd just be lost without a good cuppa. I would almost have to introduce wherever I went to the good old-fashioned British tea time.'

The Healing Power of a Cuppa

In a separate video, @Yorkshireyank elaborated on why British tea culture has so completely won her over.

'Did you know in the UK that a cup of tea cures absolutely everything? It cures everything that ails you. It doesn't matter what the problem is, a cup of tea will absolutely solve it.'

She gave examples: 'You've lost your grandmother. Let's have a drink and have a chat. You've just, you know, had a new baby. Why don't we sit down and have a cup of tea and talk about it? You want five minutes just to kind of decompress? Get a cup of tea.'

The creator emphasised she wasn't being sarcastic, explaining: 'Honestly, I'm not being facetious or sarcastic, but really, tea culture in the UK is actually really sweet. And even in the NHS, they roll tea trolleys around. Wards will have tea trolleys. You have access to a cup of tea as a visitor.'

She concluded: 'It's just insane how much tea you can get in this country. It's actually really nice. It's just one of the really nice, endearing facts about the Brits.'

Viewer Reactions

The videos resonated strongly with viewers, many of whom agreed with her observations about British life.

One commenter wrote: 'Tea definitely makes everything feel better.'

Another added: 'Cup of tea and a hot bath will solve everything.'

The American's affectionate take on British customs has clearly struck a chord, offering an outsider's perspective on what makes everyday life in the UK uniquely comforting.
