An American woman living in the UK has revealed the habits that have earned her disapproving looks from Brits over the past three years. Brianna, who shares her experiences on TikTok, listed several cultural faux pas she committed after moving across the Atlantic.
One habit that caused particular consternation was ordering water at a pub. 'You know how many people who went off on me for ordering water at a pub?' she said, adding that she accidentally did it again after three years. Another was carrying an umbrella everywhere, which drew funny looks whether she was using it or not.
Brianna also struggled with contactless payments, often trying to insert her card instead of tapping. 'I always want to insert it and everyone looks at me like, 'no, no, no, it's just tap and go',' she explained. She also admitted to cutting food with the side of her fork, asking for tea without milk, and saying 'fries' instead of 'chips'.
Brianna has since adopted British norms, using a knife and fork and adding milk to her tea. TikTok users commented, with one joking about her learning to use cutlery, while another defended carrying umbrellas as normal.
