Airbnb has identified the Albanian city of Durrës as a top 'White Isle dupe' in its latest report on UK travel trends for summer 2025. The seaside destination offers beach clubs and a growing nightlife scene, providing an Ibiza-like experience at a fraction of the cost.
According to Airbnb, searches for Durrës are booming as British travellers seek affordable alternatives to the popular Spanish island. The city, situated on the Adriatic Coast, boasts a rich history dating back nearly 3,000 years, earning it the nickname 'eternal city'.
Durrës is home to several stunning beaches, including its namesake Durrës Beach, which features golden sand and shallow waters. Visitors can enjoy water sports such as jet skiing and parasailing, or simply relax on the sand. Golem Beach, located 20 kilometres south of the city centre, offers 3.5 kilometres of soft sand and turquoise waters.
Beyond the beaches, Durrës offers cultural attractions such as the Archeological Museum, which displays artifacts from multiple eras. The southern part of the city is known for its restaurants, resorts, and vibrant nightlife.
Airbnb's list also includes Tivat, Montenegro, described as a 'Monaco-meets-Ibiza' coastal city, and Agadir, Morocco, which offers laidback charm and surf-friendly shores.
