Volkswagen has unveiled the all-new ID. Polo, the seventh generation of its popular supermini, now available as an electric vehicle. The ID. Polo is built on the MEB+ platform, designed for smaller electric models, and offers front-wheel drive with a spacious interior. At just over four metres long, it seats five and provides up to 441 litres of boot space.
Buyers can choose from two battery options: a 37 kWh pack with 116bhp or 134bhp motors, offering up to 204 miles of range, or a 52 kWh battery with a 208bhp motor, delivering a maximum range of 283 miles. A GTI version with 223bhp is expected later. DC rapid charging is standard, with the smaller battery supporting up to 90 kW and the larger up to 105 kW, enabling a 10-80% charge in about 27 and 24 minutes respectively.
Tech features include a digital key via smartphone, Connected Travel Assist that recognises traffic lights, one-pedal driving, and vehicle-to-load functionality. Inside, the ID. Polo boasts a new infotainment system with a retro display mode and physical buttons for key functions like climate control, addressing feedback from earlier ID models.
Three trim levels will be offered, with options including matrix LED headlights, a panoramic glass roof, a Harman Kardon sound system, and electrically adjustable seats with massage function. The ID. Polo is expected to start under £25,000, making it a competitive entry in the electric supermini market.
