Troy Baker on Voice Acting: From Joker to Indiana Jones

Troy Baker, one of the most prolific voice actors in video games, discusses his latest role as Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the challenges of iconic characters, and the state of the industry. With the Nintendo Switch 2 release approaching on May 12, 2026, Baker shares insights from his 20-year career.

Taking on the Fedora: Voicing Indiana Jones

Baker admits it still feels surreal to say he is Indiana Jones. 'It is weird every time. It's equal parts cool and weird,' he says. His goal was to make players feel like the iconic archaeologist, not just mimic Harrison Ford. 'Could we convince you, the player, that you're Indiana Jones? I think we did a great job.'

Meeting Harrison Ford at The Game Awards

Baker recalls standing alongside Ford at the 2024 Game Awards. 'It was minute by minute,' he says. Todd Howard and Baker shared a fan moment before walking on stage. Afterward, Ford asked if the two-and-a-half-year effort was worth it. Baker replied, 'Sure, it was worth it!'

Comparing Iconic Roles: Joker, Joel, and Jones

Baker initially turned down all three major roles: Joel in The Last of Us, the Joker in Batman: Arkham Origins, and Indiana Jones. 'I realised my opinion is probably the least important,' he says. Each role brought unique challenges, but he learned to trust the talented people who believed in him.

The Gaming Industry's Challenges and Excitement

Despite industry turmoil, Baker remains optimistic. 'There's never been a better time to make a game,' he says, citing more tools and talent. He acknowledges layoffs but focuses on opportunities. 'I'm not scared, I'm excited.'

Reliving Joel's Story in The Last of Us Season 2

Baker reflects on watching Pedro Pascal portray Joel's fate. 'That story is so dear to me,' he says. He compares it to his own experience playing the game while his son was young. 'I was telling everybody, hold on, just hold on.' He praises the HBO adaptation for introducing new audiences to Joel and Ellie.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is available on PS5, Xbox, and PC, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version arriving May 12, 2026.
