UK Samsung TV owners are set to receive a major free upgrade that will bring a host of new content to their screens. UKTV has confirmed that its popular free-to-air linear channels will soon be available on Samsung TVs in the UK for the first time without the need for additional devices.
The channels will be delivered over the internet, meaning viewers can simply plug and play without requiring a traditional aerial. Samsung will also add a dedicated rail on its home screen highlighting content from the U streaming service, making classic comedies, dramas, and factual shows instantly viewable.
Later this year, channels including U&DRAMA, U&Dave, U&YESTERDAY, U&W, and U&eden will be accessible via a deep link from Samsung's Universal Guide directly into the U app. The rollout will reach millions of Samsung TVs, with channels appearing in the platform's 'Live' tab and Universal Guide.
Jonathan Newman, General Manager of Commercial at UKTV and BBC Studios UK and Ireland, said: "This new deal strengthens our collaboration with Samsung. It will make the U app even more accessible to Samsung customers and ensure UKTV's diverse range of content remains highly visible across both video-on-demand and live channels."
Dan Harvie, Vice President of Home Entertainment and Appliances at Samsung UK and Ireland, added: "We're always looking to help our customers enjoy the best possible entertainment experience, and with UKTV we're bringing access to a wide range of broadcast content." An exact launch date has not been announced, but the new features are expected to appear in the near future.
