Samsung Teases New Galaxy Watch But Older Models Are Much Cheaper
Samsung Teases New Galaxy Watch, Older Models Cheaper

Samsung has confirmed it will launch a new Galaxy Watch alongside its foldable phones at a Galaxy Unpacked event in London on Wednesday, July 22 at 2pm BST. The company teased that the event will “unveil the newest additions to the Galaxy portfolio, which has defined the foldable category.” However, older Galaxy Watch models are currently available at significantly reduced prices, offering substantial savings for consumers.

Samsung’s Teaser for the New Galaxy Watch

In a press release, Samsung stated: “Simply wearing the new Galaxy Watch is all it takes to experience a whole new level of effortless wellness. Galaxy Watch works continuously in the background, making comprehensive healthcare a seamless part of your daily routine. Powered by all-new internal components and enhanced battery life, the upcoming Watch is built to track your health for longer and with greater accuracy.”

While the new smartwatch—likely to be called the Galaxy Watch 9—is touted as more advanced, the improvements over previous models may be incremental. Tech companies often hype annual upgrades to drive sales, but the Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 7 offer similar core functionality.

Galaxy Watch 7: Best Value Deal

The Galaxy Watch 7 is currently available from Currys for just £129, down from its previous price of £164. At launch in 2024, the 40mm model originally retailed for £289. This makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. However, Samsung only promised four years of software updates for the Watch 7, meaning support will end in 2028.

Galaxy Watch 8 and Classic Discounts

Samsung itself has discounted the Galaxy Watch 8 by £50, offering the 40mm version for £269 (down from £319) in graphite or silver with a black or white band. The larger 44mm model, which has a bigger battery, is priced at £299 instead of £349. The Watch 8 features a minimalist squircle design without the physical rotating bezel found on the Watch 8 Classic.

The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is also on sale for £349, saving £100 off its £449 retail price. This model retains the rotating bezel, appealing to users who prefer tactile navigation.

Contract Options: Not Always Cheaper

Another way to get a Galaxy Watch with lower upfront cost is through a monthly contract. Sky offers the Galaxy Watch 7 for £9 per month over 36 months, totaling £324—significantly more than the £129 outright purchase from Currys. Buyers should consider total cost over the contract term before committing.

Compatibility and Recommendations

All Galaxy Watches work with Android phones, but they integrate most seamlessly with Samsung Galaxy devices. With multiple models and price points, consumers can choose based on budget, features, and desired longevity. For those seeking the best value, the Galaxy Watch 7 at £129 is hard to beat, despite its eventual end of software updates.
