Royal Mail Warns 44 UK Postcodes Face Delays Today Amid Service Disruption
Royal Mail has issued yet another delivery disruption update, affecting postcodes right across the United Kingdom. The delivery firm, which has faced significant criticism over late deliveries amid rising stamp costs, confirmed that 44 postcode areas are experiencing delays as of Thursday, March 26, 2026.
Service Disruption Details and Affected Areas
Currently, 21 delivery offices are grappling with delays, leading to a knock-on effect on 44 postcode areas. Key locations impacted include Birmingham, Luton, and Whitechapel. Royal Mail attributed these issues to local factors such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing challenges, and other operational hurdles.
The company stated, "We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues. In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers." They added that targeted support is being provided to restore service standards.
Recent Performance and Financial Penalties
This disruption comes on the heels of Royal Mail's recent performance struggles. In the 2024-25 financial year, only 77% of First Class mail and 92.5% of Second Class mail were delivered on time, falling short of their respective targets of 93% and 98.5%. As a result, the company was handed a £21 million fine in October last year for missing these delivery targets.
Billionaire owner Daniel Kretinsky recently addressed MPs, expressing regret over late deliveries but denying that the situation is deteriorating. He told the Commons Business select committee, "Of course I am deeply sorry for any letters that arrive late. It is not perfect, but it is not catastrophic."
Stamp Price Increases and Network Issues
Adding to customer concerns, the price of First Class stamps is set to rise to £1.80, and Second Class stamps to 91p, effective from April 6. This marks a sharp increase from 2020, when a First Class stamp cost just 76p.
While Royal Mail's road and air network operated to schedule in the past 24 hours, an issue was reported at the Manchester Mail Centre. Some mail posted in the BL, M, OL, and SK postcode areas intended for delivery today in other parts of the UK may be affected.
