reMarkable Paper Pure Review: Cheapest Digital Notebook Yet
reMarkable Paper Pure Review: Cheapest Digital Notebook Yet

The reMarkable Paper Pure is the company's most affordable digital notebook yet, offering a distraction-free alternative to traditional tablets. Launched in early May, it joins the Paper Pro Move and Paper Pro to complete the reMarkable lineup. With an e-ink screen, it allows users to transfer documents and presentations for on-the-go work. I've been testing it extensively, and here's my full review.

Design

The new Paper Pure replaces the reMarkable 2, offering faster performance with reduced latency for a more natural writing experience. The battery lasts a third longer than its predecessor, according to the company. The design features a white frame around the display, replacing the metallic bar, creating a more immersive look. The 10.3-inch display is the crispest and whitest yet, though the device is more compact at 228mm tall (down from 246mm) due to a narrower bezel. It's slightly thicker to accommodate a 3,820mAh battery (up from 3,000mAh), but remains thin and is 43g lighter. Storage has increased from 8GB to 32GB. The price has dropped to £359, making it the most affordable reMarkable notebook, down from £389 for the reMarkable 2.

User Experience

The Marker stylus provides a satisfying resistance on the matte screen, closely mimicking paper. The device excels at converting handwriting to text, with corrections possible via an onscreen keyboard. Unlike other reMarkable models, the Paper Pure lacks a front light, requiring ambient light, but the E-ink display is easier on the eyes. The interface is intentionally minimal, requiring a learning curve, but becomes intuitive over time.

Features

The stylus can switch between ballpoint, pencil, paintbrush, and highlighter. Highlighters appear in grey on the device but show colour when mirrored online or on colour reMarkable models. Users can drop PDFs and other files into their account for instant syncing. Collaboration features include notebook sharing, calendar linking, and document sharing. Some advanced features like handwriting search and unlimited cloud storage require a subscription at £39 per year or £3.99 per month.

Battery Life

With E-ink consuming power only during refreshes, the battery lasts nearly three weeks on a single charge. During testing, the battery remained almost full after several days.
