Oura Ring 5 Launches: Smaller, Thinner, and Packed with New Health Features
Oura Ring 5: Smaller, Thinner, with New Health Features

The Oura Ring 5 has officially launched, and it may finally address the major concerns users have had with smart rings. The new device is 40 per cent smaller than the previous generation while still maintaining up to nine days of battery life.

Design and Build

At just 6.09mm wide and 2.28mm thick, the Oura Ring 5 is the smallest smart ring the company has ever produced. Weighing as little as 2 grams depending on size, its smoother curvature is designed to feel more natural on the finger. The ring is available in six finishes: standard silver, black, gold, stealth, brushed silver, and a new deep rose copper-rose colourway. A new coating improves scratch resistance for everyday wear.

To achieve the ultra-thin design, Oura completely re-engineered the internal architecture, including mechanical, electrical, optical, battery, and sensing systems. Lower-profile sensor domes ensure better skin contact, while more powerful LEDs and twelve stronger signal pathways improve accuracy across different finger types and skin tones. This should deliver more reliable readings for overnight heart rate tracking, workout heart rate, and signal quality.

Battery and Charging

Despite the smaller size, the ring offers up to nine days of battery life. An updated portable charging case, sold separately for around £100, stores enough power for up to five full charges while travelling.

Features and Health Tracking

New features roll out alongside the Oura Ring 5, with many also coming to older generations. Users can now track workouts live from the Oura app, viewing real-time metrics such as pace, distance, and heart rate during activities like running, cycling, and strength training. The ring can also connect to third-party heart rate monitors and supported fitness devices for more detailed data.

A host of women's health features are introduced, including menopause insights with a symptom tracking dashboard to understand how menopause affects sleep, mood, and daily routines. Hormonal birth control tracking shows how contraceptives influence biometric data and recovery trends.

The symptom radar expands into health radar, continuously monitoring biometric patterns in the background to surface potential health issues early. This includes blood pressure signals that detect changes in cardiovascular strain and rising blood pressure, tracking long-term overnight trends. The ring can monitor whether blood pressure naturally drops during sleep, an important cardiovascular marker often missed by daytime readings.

Nighttime breathing insights provide a 30-day view of breathing disturbances during sleep, helping identify long-term changes and offering guidance on whether to seek medical evaluation.

An upcoming GLP-1 insights feature is designed for users taking weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Zepbound. It allows logging medication doses and tracking effects on sleep, recovery, and heart rate.

Users can also upload blood test and lab results directly into the Oura app to compare clinical data with sleep, readiness, and activity metrics. A Bluetooth-based proximity tracking feature will help locate a misplaced ring or charging case.

Release Date and Price

The Oura Ring 5 is available for pre-order now and officially launches on Friday 4 June. The silver and black finishes cost £399, a £50 increase over the Oura Ring 4. The gold, stealth, brushed silver, and deep rose colourways cost £499. An Oura membership is required, priced at £5.99 per month or £69.99 per year.
