New PlayStation Portal OLED model coming soon suggests new Sony filing

Sony appears to be preparing to announce a new PlayStation Portal, as the company has registered two new devices with the Wi-Fi Alliance. The certifications, dated September 21, 2026, are filed under the 'gaming console/peripherals' sub-category.

The two devices carry model numbers CFI-Y2105 and CFI-Y2000, while the current Portal has the model number CFI-Y1001, suggesting they are related. Both new devices run on Android 15, as does the current Portal, whereas the PlayStation 5 console uses a custom OS.

Evidence Points to OLED Upgrade

An upgraded OLED PlayStation Portal was previously rumoured to launch this year. While Sony has not announced anything, the new filings add weight to those reports. However, neither device is certified for 6GHz Wi-Fi, only 2.4GHz and 5GHz, meaning they will not offer improved wireless capabilities.

None of the filings explicitly mention an OLED screen, but based on the evidence, it is difficult to see what other improvements could be offered if these are new PlayStation Portals. Some have suggested it could be a battery revision to make battery replacement easier, to comply with EU regulations, but the model number implies it is more than that.

Potential Launch Timing

If a new PlayStation Portal is coming this year, Sony has little time left to announce it. With GTA 6 set to launch on November 19, 2026, Sony could release the device around the same time to drive hardware sales within the current PlayStation 5 install base. Alternatively, it might have been pushed back to next year.

The original PlayStation Portal launched in 2023 with an 8 inch LCD screen. Initially it could only stream games from a PlayStation 5 console, but a 2024 update gave the device cloud gaming access to those with a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.
