App message and customer reactions

A message on the Monzo banking app reads: "We're experiencing issues. Your app will not be fully functional. Thank you for your patience." It goes on to say that during this time, customers will still be able to use their card to make payments and withdraw cash, see balances and transactions, see account details, freeze cards, send and receive bank transfers, move money between accounts and contact Monzo.

Customers have taken to X to complain about the disruption, with one person asking: "Is the app down - trying to transfer money but it isn't leaving my account?" Another person wrote: "This is concerning - Monzo down for quite a while now. Should I care for a backup bank? This is causing some issues."

Other comments include: "Can't access the app at all or see my balance or anything. Do yall know when this will be fixed? Im in a different country and need to access my money."

Monzo acknowledges the outage

Monzo acknowledged the issue at around 1:49pm in a message shared on social media. A post on X, Monzo said: "We've identified some issues affecting Monzo and activated Monzo Stand-in, our fully independent backup bank. As a result, you can still make card payments, withdraw cash, freeze your card, send and receive bank transfers, and more. We're rolling out a fix and moving quickly to get full service back up and running for everyone. Thanks for your patience."
