Money transfer app Monzo is down, leaving thousands of panicked users 'stranded' and 'unable to order food'. According to Downdetector, an independent website that monitors outages, the problems began at 1.05pm today (August 19) after 3,195 reports of issues.
Customer Complaints on Social Media
The Mirror reports customers flocked to complain on X, with one person asking: "Is the app down - trying to transfer money but it isn't leaving my account?"
Another user posted: "Great one monzo 16 year old daughters first day at her new job and I can’t even send her the money she needs to get there, currently stranded."

The cause of the outage has not been confirmed, however Monzo has activated its independent backup bank, Monzo Stand-in. The bank said users can still make card payments, withdraw cash, freeze cards and send and receive bank transfers, adding that a fix is now being rolled out as it works to restore full service.
Monzo issued a statement saying: "We're sorry for any trouble you're having making bank transfers or using the Monzo app. Our team is aware of the issue and working on a fix to get things running again ASAP."
"Thanks for bearing with us, we appreciate your patience."
