Manchester United's summer transfer activity is intensifying as new signing Cristian Orozco arrives at the club, while reports indicate contact has been made for Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha, a World Cup star with a £75.5 million buyout clause.
Orozco Joins United
Exciting Colombian midfielder Cristian Orozco is set to begin his Manchester United career as he approaches his 18th birthday on July 13. United agreed to sign the Fortaleza CEIF starlet last September but had to wait until he turns 18 to register him. To expedite the process, the club is flying Orozco to Manchester this weekend alongside chief scout Giuseppe Antonaccio to start acclimatisation and conduct his medical.
Orozco, whose playing style has been likened to Chelsea's Moises Caicedo, is considered a prospect for the future and will initially join United's under-21 setup. However, with United competing in the Champions League, manager Michael Carrick may rotate his squad heavily in the Carabao Cup, potentially offering Orozco first-team opportunities next season.
Contact Made for Nmecha
According to Sky Germany, Manchester United have made contact regarding Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha, who has impressed during the World Cup in North America. The 25-year-old midfielder has a long-term contract with Dortmund, running for four more years, and a buyout clause of £75.5 million.
Newcastle United are also interested but reportedly want to lower the asking price, which could open the door for Manchester United to secure the deal. A move to the Premier League appeals to Nmecha, the younger brother of Leeds United forward Lukas Nmecha. His immediate focus remains on the World Cup, where Germany faces Paraguay in the last 32 after topping Group E.
Departures and Other News
On the outbound front, goalkeeper Andre Onana looks set to extend his loan at Trabzonspor, with the Turkish club covering his wages and paying a loan fee. Meanwhile, United are reportedly locked in a battle with Tottenham for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, a Portugal international. Other midfield targets include Newcastle's Sandro Tonali, although Elliot Anderson, another United target, has agreed to join Manchester City.
Michael Carrick, who took over as manager, aims to build on a promising start and improve on last season's third-place finish, with Champions League success also a priority. The departure of Casemiro on an expiring contract necessitates further midfield reinforcements, and the club is actively pursuing multiple options.
