Manchester United are eyeing a potential move for former Tottenham forward Troy Parrott and have sent officials to Spain to watch him in action for Real Betis. The 24-year-old, who left Spurs in 2024 to join AZ Alkmaar in a £6.7m permanent deal, has a release clause worth £67.5m.
Parrott's rise at Betis
During his time in the Netherlands, the Republic of Ireland international scored 51 times in 97 appearances across all competitions. That form, alongside regular scoring for Ireland, earned him a £17m move to Betis in the summer. Since then, Parrott has scored twice and added one assist in seven matches this season.
Reports have circulated that Tottenham might attempt to bring Parrott back to north London, as Roberto De Zerbi tries to strengthen his front line. But Spurs are not the only Premier League club believed to be interested.
United's interest and scouting
According to Fichero, Parrott's performances have sparked serious interest from the English top flight, with United thought to be keen. The Reds are looking for a No.9 with potential who can make an immediate impact, after deciding not to add a new centre-forward to their squad in the summer.
Parrott's 'link-up play, physical strength, and clinical finishing' are highlighted as key attributes. United are keeping a close eye on his progress and have sent scouts to watch him live for Betis in both La Liga and the Champions League. Manuel Pellegrini's side have picked up 19 points from a possible 24 in the league and six from six in Europe's elite club competition.
Release clause and Sesko situation
While Michael Carrick's men are thought to be keen on Parrott, there is no indication at this stage of United making further advances for the front man. He has a contract to run until 2031 and a release clause worth £67.5m, a figure that could put off potential suitors, including United.
Benjamin Sesko is the first-choice striker at United, but he has struggled with injuries and is still out on the sidelines. There are genuine concerns about when the Slovenian international could be back fit. United opted not to sign a back-up for Sesko in the summer and leave Joshua Zirkzee as second-choice despite it looking like the Dutch attacker would leave on transfer deadline day, a decision that some supporters believe was the wrong one.
