Arsenal Agree Terms with Bruno Guimaraes
Arsenal have reportedly reached a personal agreement with Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, potentially beating Liverpool to the signing of the Brazilian midfielder. According to L'Equipe, Guimaraes has agreed to a five-year contract with Arsenal running until 2031.
The 28-year-old playmaker has been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United this summer, but Arsenal appear to have seized the advantage. However, the deal is not yet complete as Arsenal must still negotiate a transfer fee with Newcastle. The Magpies are reluctant to lose their skipper, especially after selling Sandro Tonali to Tottenham. A transfer could be completed for approximately £76 million.
Newcastle signed Guimaraes from Lyon in January 2022 for an undisclosed fee. Lyon hold a 20% sell-on clause, meaning they would receive around £15 million from any £76 million sale, reducing Newcastle's net profit. Arsenal reportedly saw a £55 million bid rejected in June, but they have persisted in their pursuit.
Curtis Jones Dismisses Exit Rumours
Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has responded to speculation linking him with a move to Nottingham Forest. The 25-year-old academy graduate took to social media to share a sceptical emoji in reply to a post claiming he was set to join Forest, suggesting he is unaware of such a move and unlikely to accept a step down from Anfield.
Jones is entering the final year of his contract with Liverpool, and it remains possible the club could seek to offload him this summer. However, his reaction indicates he is not actively pursuing a transfer.
Liverpool's Pre-Season Underway
Liverpool have begun pre-season training under new manager Andoni Iraola, but the squad is not yet complete. Several players are still on post-World Cup holidays, and new signings are expected to join the team during their pre-season tour in the United States. The Reds are undergoing a significant overhaul after a disappointing campaign last season, and fans are eager to see fresh faces arrive at Anfield.
