Liverpool have reportedly submitted a record-breaking offer for Tijuana wonderkid Gilberto Mora, while their pursuit of Fiorentina midfielder Cher Ndour continues to gather pace ahead of the January transfer window.
The Reds return to action on Sunday when they host Manchester City, looking to build on successive victories following a three-week international break. Andoni Iraola's side have climbed to sixth in the table after a disappointing start to the campaign, but speculation over potential signings continues to surround Anfield.
Ndour pursuit faces competition
Fiorentina midfielder Cher Ndour is one potential winter acquisition who has caught the eye at Anfield. However, Liverpool will need to ward off interest from Juventus and Crystal Palace to secure the Italy international, who is still only 22.
La Repubblica reported Ndour was the only player at the Stadio Artemio Franchi considered 'unsellable' in the summer. That stance may be tested if the Reds intensify their pursuit, with a bid in the region of £30million alleged to be sufficient to secure his services.
The former Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica playmaker has established himself as an indispensable figure in Florence. Liverpool may well require reinforcements in midfield, with Wataru Endo poised to depart when his contract runs out at the close of this season, and questions lingering over the future of Alexis Mac Allister, who will soon enter the final 18 months of his deal.
PSG retain a 50 per cent sell-on clause in Ndour's contract following his move to Fiorentina for around £3.5m last year, which should translate into a handsome windfall for Les Parisiens should he move on.
Record Mora bid lodged
TUDN has reported Liverpool have submitted a bid worth 'in excess of £38m' for Gilberto Mora, which would make him Liga MX's most expensive export. The 17-year-old attacking midfielder, who can also operate on the left wing, has been linked with Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid since bursting onto the scene at Tijuana as a schoolboy.
Mora became the youngest player to represent Mexico at a World Cup when he appeared for El Tri this summer. He prepares to celebrate his 18th birthday next week (Oct. 14) and found the net in a 1-1 friendly draw against Colombia last month, but was withdrawn from Mexico's other friendlies during the international break.
TUDN's report suggested Mexico manager Rafael Marquez took that decision with transfer speculation in mind, claiming it "is an indication the deal is progressing," with a potential January switch being considered. Liverpool face significant competition in the race they'll need to overcome to complete a deal.
