Liverpool have reduced their asking price for midfielder Curtis Jones to £30m, according to reports in Italy, as the 25-year-old edges closer to an exit from Anfield. The Reds have also received a boost in their pursuit of Bradley Barcola after Paris Saint-Germain strengthened their attacking options.
Jones price reduced amid Inter interest
Jones, an academy product, has fallen out of favour under manager Andoni Iraola and has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan throughout the transfer window. With his contract due to expire next year, Liverpool are keen to recoup a fee for the Englishman.
Reports in Italy suggested that the asking price had been a sticking point in negotiations, with Liverpool initially holding firm at £34m. However, it now appears they have reduced this figure to £30m.
Because Jones came through the club's academy, he has no book value on the balance sheet, meaning any transfer fee received would count as pure profit under Financial Fair Play regulations.
Inter have already secured John Stones on a free transfer following the expiry of his Manchester City contract, while Tottenham's Djed Spence is close to a £30m move to Italy.
PSG signings signal Barcola exit
Liverpool's pursuit of Barcola has been cautious, with initial discussions held with the player's representatives and reports indicating a formal offer is forthcoming. PSG's valuation, believed to be around £130m, has been considered excessive.
However, PSG have announced the arrival of World Cup winner Ferran Torres from Barcelona for £42m, and young Mika Godts is set to follow from Ajax for £48m. The duo will join Maghnes Akliouche as attacking additions this summer.
This double swoop strongly suggests Barcola is heading towards the exit door, effectively signalling PSG's intention to offload him before the window closes. Whether they are willing to lower their valuation remains to be seen.
Mbaye deal still alive
Godts and Torres' arrival could also hand Liverpool a timely boost in their pursuit of Ibrahim Mbaye. Reports from France indicate that a deal for the 18-year-old Senegal international remains very much alive, with Liverpool potentially set to make their move.
