Jet2 has confirmed a twilight check-in service at 12 UK airports, enabling passengers with flights departing before midday to check in and drop off their bags during a 4.5-hour window the evening prior. The service is designed to streamline the airport experience, allowing travelers to head straight to security on the day of departure, bypassing long check-in queues.
How the Twilight Check-In Works
Passengers must first check in online via Jet2's website or app, anytime from 28 days up to 24 hours before the flight. Jet2 recommends checking in as soon as online check-in opens to avoid missing the window. On the evening before the flight, between 4:30pm and 9pm, one person in the party can drop off bags for up to six people at the airport, presenting boarding passes and passports. The next morning, passengers proceed directly to security and then to their gate.
Normally, passengers are advised to arrive at least two hours before departure and queue at check-in desks for boarding passes and luggage drop. The twilight service eliminates this step, reducing morning stress and saving time.
Eligibility and Participating Airports
The service is available seven days a week for flights departing before midday. The 12 UK airports offering twilight check-in are: Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow International, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, London Gatwick, London Luton, London Stansted, Manchester, and Newcastle.
According to Jet2, the service is free and available to all passengers with eligible flights. The airline stated: “Check in online. You need to do this no later than 24 hours before your flight, but to make sure you don’t miss out, we recommend you check in as soon as online check-in opens, 28 days before you travel. Drop your bags at the airport. One person in your party can drop off up to six people's bags. Simply take your luggage to the airport between 16:30-21:00 the evening before your flight. Don't forget your boarding passes and passports! Sail straight through to security. On the morning of your flight, bypass check-in and head to security. Relax and enjoy your getaway!”
Impact and Convenience
The initiative aims to improve passenger flow and reduce congestion at check-in desks during peak morning hours. By offloading luggage the night before, travelers can arrive later on the day of departure, potentially alleviating early morning rush. This policy aligns with similar services offered by other airlines, though Jet2's twilight check-in is specifically tailored for its network of UK bases.
