Apple's new iPhone Duo, the company's first foldable smartphone, will be available for pre-order this Friday, October 16, with two options that make the £2,000 device more affordable. The phone launches in stores on October 23.
Design and Features
The iPhone Duo features a passport-like design with a 5.4-inch outer screen that opens to a 7.6-inch display. The larger panel includes a nano-texture finish to reduce glare and make the crease, common on Android foldables, appear almost invisible. The device also includes a dual-lens camera, Touch ID fingerprint scanner, and an A20 Pro processor, along with a precision hinge designed for durability.
Apple has adjusted its software to take advantage of the larger display, with some apps, including Netflix, ready to use the dual screens.
Pricing and Affordability
The iPhone Duo starts at £2,000, but the price can exceed £3,000 with additional memory. To make it more affordable, Apple offers trade-in deals that can reduce the price by over £800 when customers trade in their current devices. The trade-in value can be checked on Apple's Duo pre-order page by entering the device's serial number, found in Settings > General > About.
Alternatively, customers can spread the cost with 0% finance, allowing the Duo to be purchased for £66.63 per month without a trade-in. This price does not include a SIM plan, but SIMs can be obtained for as little as £5 per month.
Official Statement
Apple CEO John Ternus said: "iPhone Duo is the most transformational change to iPhone since the original. With an entirely new design and intuitive experiences, it shows what's possible when hardware and software are engineered together and redefines what it means to use a foldable phone."
He added: "With the largest display ever on iPhone that still fits easily in your pocket, combined with the power of A20 Pro, iPhone Duo helps you stay more immersed and productive wherever you go, whether you're enjoying content, multitasking across apps, or gaming."
