Grand Theft Auto fans can dive into Los Santos completely free of charge this weekend, but will need to act fast or miss out entirely. GTA Online is included in this weekend's Xbox Free Play Days, accessible without paying an extra penny as of Tuesday, July 14. However, it will cease to be free on Tuesday, July 21.
While an Xbox Game Pass subscription isn't required, after July 21 gamers will have to purchase GTA V, which usually includes GTA Online. Be careful though, as there are versions of GTA V that only have the main story mode. Alternatively, GTA Online is available as a standalone purchase and is currently on sale at half price as part of the Xbox Ultimate Game Sale. It's also included in GTA+, a monthly subscription platform that offers access to a rotating selection of classic Rockstar titles and plenty of other benefits.
Other Free Games This Weekend
Joining GTA Online for Free Play Days is Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, the fighter based in the Dragon Ball Z world, also available without a Game Pass subscription.
Three more games are available to try this weekend if you do have an Xbox Game Pass membership. Ultimate, Premium and Essential subscribers can play these titles until Sunday, July 19, having become available via Free Play Days on Thursday, July 16.
There's Crisol: Theater of Idols, a survival horror adventure set in a twisted reimagining of Spain. Players take on the role of lone soldier Gabriel, who must fight through religious idols and nightmarish creatures after landing on the cursed island of Tormentosa.
Thankfully, the other two games are much less traumatising. Planet Zoo is a simulation game perfect for those who dream of creating their own wildlife park, and comes from the developers of Planet Coaster and Zoo Tycoon. There's also Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports, where players can battle friends in basketball, football, golf and tennis while navigating wacky obstacles and power-ups in chaotic family fun. Both Planet Zoo and Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports are currently on sale in the Xbox store.
