Freeview Shake-Up: Talk Channel Closes, Guide Updated

Freeview has announced a significant shake-up to its television guide, including the permanent closure of a popular channel and several position changes. The British news channel Talk (Ch 280) will no longer be available on the platform from 25 June 2026, according to Freeview.

Talk Channel Closure

Talk, which launched in 2022, is a debate and opinion-led news channel featuring presenters such as Jeremy Kyle, Mark Dolan and Kevin O'Sullivan. Freeview confirmed that the channel will be removed from its electronic programme guide. Viewers who wish to continue watching Talk must now stream the service via the official Talk app or on other platforms including Samsung TVs, Roku devices and LG screens.

Channel Rename and Moves

Alongside the closure, Freeview has renamed Wedotv Big Stories on channel 275 to simply Wedotv. Additionally, three children's channels have moved to new positions: Ketchup TV shifts from Ch 209 to Ch 208, Ketchup Too moves from Ch 210 to Ch 209, and Cartoon Classics relocates from Ch 214 to Ch 210.

"On 25th June 2026 some broadcasters are making changes to their channels," Freeview stated. "Channels are constantly evolving on Freeview with individual channels making the decision to move, add or remove channels. Freeview continues to ensure that audiences can enjoy a rich and varied content."

Retune Required

To ensure all changes take effect, Freeview advises users to retune their TV or set-top box. "You will need to retune to update your TV and keep your channels and TV Guide up to date," the company explained.

The retune process involves pressing the menu button on the remote, selecting 'set-up', 'installation', or 'update', then choosing 'first-time installation' (sometimes called 'factory reset' or 'full retune'). If prompted, users should enter a default password of '1234' or '0000', confirm deletion of existing channels, and save the new channel list.
