Fourth Wing TV Series Greenlit at Prime Video: Everything We Know
Fourth Wing TV Series Greenlit: All Details

The long-awaited Fourth Wing television series has officially been greenlit, with Amazon confirming the adaptation will stream on Prime Video. Rebecca Yarros's bestselling Empyrean series, set in a brutal dragon-riding academy, blends high fantasy with enemies-to-lovers romance, drawing comparisons to Harry Potter and The Hunger Games.

Production Team and Announcement

Oscar-winner Michael Jordan appeared at Amazon's upfront presentation to announce his role as executive producer via his Outlier Society production studio. He introduced fellow executive producer Lisa Joy, co-creator of Westworld. Meredith Averill will serve as showrunner and screenwriter, with Yarros herself as executive producer.

“Rebecca’s books have become one of the fastest-selling franchises of the 21st century, with a fandom so passionate they don’t just read these books, they live in them,” Averill stated. “The emotional stakes are sky high, the battles are epic, power dynamics are thrilling, and underneath it is so much humour and heart and a romance that will consume you.”

Release Timeline

Filming has not yet begun, so fans should not expect the series to arrive soon. The show is slated for a five-season run, with the first season based on the novel Fourth Wing. Amazon confirmed the project during its upfront presentation to TV advertisers, but no specific release date was provided.

Plot Overview

The story follows Violet Sorrengail, a 20-year-old who reluctantly enters Basgiath War College to become a dragon rider, following her mother's military path instead of her father's scholarly one. Violet faces deadly training, treacherous dragon bonding, and rivalries, including a slow-burn romance with wingleader Xaden Riorson. Despite a condition that makes her physically fragile, she relies on her wits and intelligence to survive.

Cast and Development

No cast has been officially confirmed, though rumours suggest Australian actor Josh Heuston may be in contention to play Xaden. The project is developed by Amazon MGM Studios, with Yarros serving as executive producer alongside Jordan and Joy.

Yarros's third Empyrean book, Onyx Storm, became the fastest-selling adult novel in two decades upon release in 2023. A fourth Empyrean novel and a contemporary romance are also in the works.
