This weekend in Greater Manchester brings a bumper line-up of events, from a contemporary craft fair and a foodie reopening to a heritage steam gala and a DJ return.
Craft fair at Victoria Baths
Victoria Baths will host the 19th edition of the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair, featuring products from more than 200 makers. Running until October 18, the Grade II* listed baths will provide a backdrop for stalls selling ceramics, jewellery, textiles, furniture, glass, wood, metal, printmaking, sculpture and fine art. Visitors can also enjoy live demonstrations and drop-in pottery workshops with Yellowhammer Ceramics Studio.
The event runs from 10am to 6pm on Saturday, October 17 and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, October 18. Tickets start from £8.95.
Medlock Canteen reopens on Side Street
Medlock Canteen reopens in a new home on Side Street on October 16. The much-loved Manchester food spot has an all-day menu with popular dishes making a return, including the 50/50 mash, Turkey Schnitzel and the deep-fried dessert pie, alongside new plates taking diners from breakfast through to dinner. On Sunday, the Medlock roast offers a choice of chicken, beef, pork belly or vegan roast celeriac schnitzel. Walk-ins are welcome, or booking is available via the website.
Neighborhood Festival and Autumn Steam Gala
On Saturday, October 17, dozens of artists will take over venues along the Oxford Road corridor as part of the Neighborhood Festival. This year’s lineup includes Florence Road, Red Rum Club, and The Guest List. Tickets are sold out, though resale options may be available.
East Lancashire Railway hosts its last large-scale steam event of the year with the Autumn Steam Gala from October 16 to 18. Visitors can ride the railway’s home fleet and four guest locomotives. Brake van rides are available for all three days, offering the experience of travelling on the veranda of a brake van, or a Cream Tea in the L&YR Observation Saloon. An adult one-day rover starts from £37.
Eric Prydz at The Warehouse Project
Swedish DJ Eric Prydz returns to Manchester for the first time in four years at the Concourse room at The Warehouse Project. As it’s a one-room show, capacity is limited but tickets are still available. No phones will be allowed to ensure everyone is in the moment. It’s part of a bumper lineup this year as the venue marks its 20th anniversary, including a headline show from Eastenderz in November.
