Vodafone's new SuperMobile plan downloaded Dina Asher-Smith's 150-track training playlist in just 21.2 seconds, beating the time it took the sprinter to run 200 metres at the 2019 Athletics World Championships, where she won gold in 21.88 seconds.
The challenge tested whether the plan could download the playlist, containing around nine hours of music, before Asher-Smith completed a 200-metre sprint. The playlist included tracks from Beyoncé, Dave, Skepta and Kendrick Lamar.
Super-fast speeds on demand
Powered by Vodafone's 5G+ FastTrack, SuperMobile offers speeds up to four times faster than standard plans, along with guaranteed minimum speeds. The company says this helps customers spend less time waiting and more time doing when network demand is high.
Asher-Smith said: "As a sprinter, every second counts, so I was genuinely impressed that Vodafone SuperMobile managed to beat me! Speed is obviously a huge part of my life, both on and off the track, and music plays a big role in my training and getting me ready to run fast. Whether I’m downloading a playlist or sharing training videos on the go, I want my mobile plan to keep up".
Connectivity valued across the nation
A Vodafone spokesperson said: "If you're going to test Vodafone SuperMobile, you need someone who knows a thing or two about speed. Dina is the fastest British woman ever, making her the perfect person to take on our new super-fast mobile plan."
Research from Vodafone found that 63% of Britons value fast, reliable connectivity more than ever, including for connecting with friends and family (32%), entertainment such as streaming TV, films and music (30%), staying connected on the go (25%) or working or studying from home (15%). More than a quarter (26%) said they get frustrated when payments won't process, while 21% cited buffering maps, 19% videos that won't play and 10% playlists that won't download.
Two in five (40%) said they have lost out on something important because their connection was too slow, including 14% who missed online shopping deals or items selling out, 11% food delivery slots, 10% appointments and 9% festival tickets. The showdown is available on YouTube, and Asher-Smith's 'FastTracks' playlist, made in partnership with Vodafone, is available on Spotify.
