BYD Atto 3 Evo Transforms Family SUV into High-Performance Electric Vehicle
BYD has officially unveiled the comprehensively updated Atto 3 Evo, a significant evolution of the first model it launched in the UK just three years ago. This electric family SUV now boasts enhanced performance, extended range, faster charging capabilities, and improved practicality, positioning it more upmarket within BYD's crowded lineup and strengthening its stance in the competitive electric C-segment SUV class.
Performance and Powertrain Enhancements
As indicated by the Evo name, the Atto 3 Evo receives a substantial performance boost. The rear-wheel-drive Design variant features a single electric motor delivering 309bhp and 380Nm of torque, achieving a 0-62mph time of 5.5 seconds and a maximum claimed range of up to 317 miles. For those seeking even greater power, the all-wheel-drive Excellence version adds a second motor on the front axle, elevating total output to 443bhp and 560Nm. This configuration reduces the 0-62mph sprint to a blistering 3.9 seconds, though the maximum range slightly decreases to 292 miles.
Both models are built on the latest iteration of BYD's e-Platform 3.0 and utilise a larger 74.8kWh Blade Battery. The 800V electrical architecture enables DC charging at up to 220kW, allowing a 10 to 80 per cent recharge in just 25 minutes. The Blade Battery employs lithium iron-phosphate chemistry and is integrated into the vehicle's structure via cell-to-body construction, enhancing rigidity and packaging efficiency.
Design and Practicality Upgrades
Externally, the Atto 3 Evo retains its dimensions at 4455mm long, 1875mm wide, and 1615mm tall, but benefits from more efficient packaging. Subtle revisions include new front and rear bumpers, redesigned 18-inch alloy wheels, slimmer side skirts, and an updated rear spoiler. Notably, BYD has removed the 'Build Your Dreams' text from the boot door, replacing it with more understated branding.
Practicality sees marked improvements, with boot capacity increasing by 50 litres to 490 litres with the rear seats upright, expanding to 1360 litres when folded. A new 101-litre frunk under the bonnet provides additional storage for charging cables or small items. The cabin layout has been revised for a more open feel, relocating the gear selector to the steering column. An 8.8-inch digital driver display is now standard, complemented by a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen running BYD's latest infotainment software, which includes integrated Google services and an AI-enhanced voice assistant.
Enhanced Features and Safety Standards
In line with its upmarket positioning, the Atto 3 Evo's specification has been expanded to include features typically found in larger or more expensive SUVs. These encompass a head-up display, heated rear seats, wireless smartphone charging, ambient lighting, and NFC access via phone or wearable devices. Safety is prioritised with seven airbags and a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure assist, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, and front and rear collision warning.
Both Design and Excellence models offer a braked towing capacity of up to 1500kg and include Vehicle-to-Load capability, enabling external devices to be powered at up to 3kW. Stella Li, executive vice president of BYD, emphasised the brand's rapid progress, stating, "The Atto 3 Evo proves how big a step we can make in less than three years, distilling our EV innovations into a powerful, efficient, and feature-packed offering."
Availability and Warranty Details
The BYD Atto 3 Evo is available to order now, with first customer deliveries anticipated in the spring. It comes with a six-year vehicle warranty and an eight-year or 155,350-mile battery warranty, guaranteeing a minimum state of health of 70 per cent. This update not only enhances performance and practicality but also solidifies BYD's commitment to innovation in the evolving electric vehicle market.
