BT has begun emailing some broadband customers to confirm a major change to their TV plans: free access to premium sports channels is ending. Users who previously enjoyed TNT Sports at no extra cost are now being told they must pay to continue viewing.
End of Free Sports Add-On
The telecoms giant has long offered broadband plans that include sports at no additional charge. This started with BT Sport, moved to Discovery+, and finally became TNT Sports. Now, as spotted by Cordbusters, BT users have received an email stating: "The promotion on your TNT Sports Pack App add-on has come to an end, so we’re updating your price."
The email adds: "Your bill might say your service has changed. This is only because the price has changed. Everything else will stay the same." To soften the blow, BT is offering a deal for legacy customers that drops the price from £25 per month to £15, a £120-a-year saving.
Customer Backlash on Forums
Despite the discount, the news has not gone down well. Posting on BT's forum, one user named Magrox said: "I am definitely not paying for TNT Sport as it is very much the poor relation of Sky and not worth £5, never mind £15 a month."
Another user, docdunning, added: "I might call 150 tomorrow and express my disappointment (that's somewhat understating it), but I think it's time to say 'bye-bye BT'." Sonofj1 vented: "I signed a new two-year deal in January, there was no notice of any forthcoming change to things - I wouldn't have re-signed if there had been."
Official Confirmation and Next Steps
BT has now confirmed to Cordbusters that it is officially ending this offer, which was handed out to a specific group of BT broadband users. The update appears to kick in from October 16. Those who sign up will get access to UEFA Champions League games, Premier League access, Rugby, MotoGP, Golf, and more.
"Your TNT Sports Pack price will increase to £25 £15 a month from 16 October 2026. 30-day rolling contract," the email confirmed. Customers who are unhappy are advised to call BT or shop around to see what sports deals are currently available.
