Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynched is set to be a solid remake, offering more finesse than reinvention. After three hours of playtime with the franchise's first full-scale remake, there is equal parts new and familiar to enjoy.
Parkour and Stealth Improvements
Parkour returns in top form, with back and side ejects and a dedicated descend button making Edward handle smoothly. The addition of a crouch button makes stealth more viable, allowing players to sneak around enemies naturally. The mini-map has been replaced with a compass and focus system, reducing immersion-breaking elements.
Visual and World Enhancements
Running on the latest Anvil engine, the West Indies look breathtaking and colourful. Havana feels lived-in with singers, bustling crowds, and optional emergent events like rescuing prisoners or pickpocketing guards. These additions make exploration more engaging.
Combat Overhaul
Combat has been tweaked to be more involved, featuring a perfect parry for instant takedowns, a dodge mechanic for red-flashing attacks, and new abilities like the leg sweep and spartan kick. While not the most sophisticated system, it reduces repetitiveness.
Naval battles remain largely unchanged, with chain shots and mortar fire still thrilling. The Jackdaw handles well, and the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' approach works.
New Narrative Content
New chapters and optional missions introduce three naval officers, including Lucy Baldwin, whose strong introduction adds flavour. While not game-changing, these additions enhance the original story without disrupting it.
Overall, Resynched is a delicate balancing act, polishing the original with graphical and mechanical upgrades while retaining its core. It launches on PS5, Xbox, and PC on July 9, 2026.
