The Unwelcome Update for Prime Members
Initially launched as an optional, free update in February 2025, Alexa+ is now being automatically pushed to users. Amazon recently emailed customers to notify them that the upgrade was happening, stating it would provide a "more delightful Alexa experience" that feels "expansive and natural." The email assured users the update would require no action on their part.
However, the reality has jarred with the marketing for many. On forums like Reddit, a wave of bafflement and annoyance has emerged. One user vented, "Mine has a really annoying new voice. I can't take it. Need to figure out how to change it," while another complained, "It sounds like I'm talking to a teenage girl, wayyyy too peppy for me at 6 o'clock in the morning." How to Change Alexa's Voice Back
Thankfully, for those who prefer a less exuberant digital companion, reverting to a different voice is straightforward. You have two options:
- Via the Alexa App: Open the app, select 'Devices', then 'Device settings'. Tap 'Alexa's Voice' and choose an alternative like 'Masculine 2, warm' or 'Feminine 4, grounded'.
