Quality Bites, a major UK frozen food manufacturer stocked in more than 1,000 independent supermarkets, has ceased trading after 13 years and entered liquidation.
The West Midlands-based firm operated as a halal frozen food brand, offering products including samosas, kebabs and crispy chicken. It described itself as "one of the leading manufacturers of ethnic foods in the UK".
Liquidation details
The company was voluntarily wound up on October 7, according to The Gazette. Deviesh Raikundalia of Hall Chadwick (UK) Limited has since been appointed as liquidator. The resolutions for winding-up and notices to creditors were published by The Gazette on October 22.
Quality Bites worked alongside retailers, wholesalers and distributors across the country, the Herald has reported.
Context of UK business closures
The closure comes during a turbulent year for British businesses. High street names such as Claire's and Quiz have been forced to shut all their remaining stores after falling into administration this year.
Hospitality giant Whitbread, which also runs Premier Inn, pulled the plug on all its standalone branded restaurants across the UK last month, including Brewers Fayre and Beefeater. A combined workforce of around 30,000 staff are employed across the two restaurant chains.
On Monday, September 7, all 89 Brewers Fayre restaurants shut their doors, followed just days later by the closure of all 106 Beefeater restaurants. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that both chains would be shutting down as part of a wider strategic overhaul by parent company Whitbread.
