Wynsors has announced the closure of its store at Birkenhead’s Europa Centre, with a closing-down sale now underway. Customers can get up to 30% off items while stocks last.
Retailer Background and Affected Locations
The family footwear retailer, originally known as Wynsors World of Shoes, was founded in 1956. It operates dozens of stores, mainly across the North of England, as well as an online shop selling budget and branded footwear, trainers and schoolwear.
Wynsors will continue to operate elsewhere in Merseyside after the Birkenhead closure, including stores in Knotty Ash and St Helens. The retailer also has a presence further afield in Warrington.
It is understood that 17 Wynsors stores are set to close permanently across the UK. The affected locations include Leeds, Sheffield, Wakefield, Fleetwood, Burnley, Oldham, Salford, Bury, Rochdale, Hanley, Birkenhead, Bootle, Bacup, Bolton, Gateshead and Sunderland.
Company Statement and Closing-Down Sales
In a statement shared with Crewe Nub News, Wynsors said it was “with sadness” that it had announced the closures. The company thanked customers for their support over the years, saying it had meant a great deal to its teams.
The affected branches are holding closing-down sales as they prepare to shut, with the company saying “everything” needs to go. Wynsors stressed that the closures only affect selected stores, while its other branches will continue trading as normal.
The Liverpool ECHO has contacted Wynsors for further comment on the Birkenhead closure. The retailer has not yet provided further details about the reasons behind the closures.
