Lidl's latest Special Buy, the Esmara Ladies' Trench Coat, will be available in stores from Sunday, August 23, as part of the Middle Aisle update. Priced at £14.99 for Lidl Plus app users or £17.99 for those without, the coat comes in beige, khaki and black.
The lightweight, breathable trench coat is designed for protection from rain and wind without overheating, making it suitable for both summer and autumn. It features an oversized style, side pockets, and a detachable tie belt, and is available in sizes small, medium and large.
Features and Design
According to Lidl's product description, the coat includes a water-repellent outer fabric with Bionic-Finish Eco technology, a wide lapel collar, double-breasted button fastening with inside button, adjustable sleeves with tabs, and a back vent for freedom of movement.
The coat is 100% polyester, a material difference from higher-end versions. For comparison, Selfridges sells Whistles' Riley Belted Woven Trench Coat in black for £199, which is 92% viscose and 8% polyester. The Whistles coat shares similar features such as a relaxed fit, long sleeves with belted cuffs, a tie belt, front buttons, a wide lapel collar, and shoulder detailing, but Lidl's coat includes an extra pair of buttons across the chest.
Comparison with High-End Options
John Lewis also offers a Whistles Riley Trench Coat in Khaki for £199, described as having a mid-length cut, double-breasted front, and tie fastening. The product description states: "Cut to a mid-length, it comes with all the features you'd expect from your typical trench - a double-breasted front with a tie fastening that will define your waist. Style yours with everything from casual separates to printed dresses."
Meanwhile, Next's Threadbare Stone Double Breasted Longline Trench Coat, priced at £68, is also 100% polyester like Lidl's option. The beige version of Lidl's coat shares similar features with Next's coat, though there is a difference in the number of buttons.
