Wrexham are closing in on their first summer signing with Crystal Palace defender Danny Imray set to join the Championship club, according to reports. The 23-year-old right-back has spent the last two seasons out on loan from Selhurst Park, with a campaign in League Two with Bromley followed by two loan spells last season with Blackpool and West Bromwich Albion respectively. During his time with the Baggies, he made 17 appearances and helped the club avoid relegation from the Championship.
Imray move for promotion push
He is now set to play a role at the other end of the table as Wrexham bid for promotion to the Premier League after narrowly missing out on the play-offs last season. According to the Telegraph, Imray is closing in on a £5 million move to the Racecourse Ground, with the full-back expected to be left out of Palace's squad for the pre-season Como Cup in Italy this week. He had also received interest from Stoke City, while Albion were reportedly keen to bring him back to The Hawthorns – but Wrexham look to have got their man.
Boss Phil Parkinson told talkSPORT that he anticipated a new face arriving at the club this week, explaining: "You bring the players in different stages of pre-season. Some deals take longer than others, people moving into the area and it took us a while to find our feet in the division and also, I had players adapting to that. But I feel we've got a better, stronger squad this pre-season and it's been great to work with the group so far, which we put together last season. However, I don't feel we're there yet in terms of the squad. We're not resting on our laurels and thinking we're seventh and we're just going to naturally progress above that."
Further targets eyed
Wrexham look set to splash more cash this summer as they bid to go one step further and make it to the Premier League. In the market for a goalkeeper, they have been linked with Sunderland shot-stopper Anthony Patterson, with reports suggesting they are ready to bid £7 million to land the 26-year-old. The Welsh side are also believed to be interested in Everton keeper Mark Travers, who reportedly has an £8 million release clause in his contract at Goodison Park and is also being eyed by newly-promoted Premier League side Coventry City.
Leicester defender Harry Souttar is another name linked, with the Australia international wanting to leave the club following their relegation to League One. However, the Foxes want a whopping £10m for the centre-back, who has also been linked with Sheffield United and West Ham. Co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have also reportedly backed a club-record contract offer to sign Senegal forward Bamba Dieng, who is a free agent after his departure from Lorient this summer. Wrexham have also been linked with Portsmouth defender Terry Devlin, having had a £2m offer rejected by the Fratton Park side in January, although the imminent signing of Imray could change things.
