Waitrose's Almond Croissant Easter Egg Returns for 2026 with a Twist
Waitrose Almond Croissant Easter Egg 2026 Review (18.03.2026)

Waitrose's Almond Croissant Easter Egg Makes a Comeback for 2026

Easter eggs have evolved far beyond simple hollow chocolates, with supermarkets and brands offering innovative designs to captivate chocolate enthusiasts. From Aldi's jammy wheel biscuit egg to Hotel Chocolat's massive 1kg ostrich egg, the options are diverse and creative. In this landscape, Waitrose has brought back its popular croissant-shaped chocolate treat for 2026, adding an almond twist to last year's viral hit.

A Viral Sensation Returns with Enhancements

Last year, Waitrose's chocolate croissant egg gained significant attention online, particularly on platforms like TikTok, where taste-test videos amassed thousands of views. The IndyBest team, known for their annual Easter egg reviews, was eager to sample the updated version. In 2025, food writer Emma Henderson praised it as the best "kitsch design" among eggs from retailers like Fortnum & Mason, M&S, Sainsbury's, and Asda.

For 2026, Waitrose has introduced a new almond variant as part of its premium Number One range, marketed as "a grown-up treat." Priced at £15, this egg features a hollow white chocolate shell infused with almond paste, caramelised sugar, and chopped roasted almonds. It is hand-finished with milk chocolate, additional roasted almonds, and a dusting of white chocolate powder, cleverly mimicking the flaky texture of pastry.

Taste Test Verdict: A Delight with a Minor Drawback

Our in-house tester, Alice Reynolds, compared two blonde chocolate eggs from Waitrose: the pistachio Easter egg (£17) and the almond croissant version. In her review, she highlighted that the almond croissant egg stood out for its "taste and ingenuity." She noted that the chocolate is thick and irresistibly moreish, with a rippled design that effectively replicates flaky pastry.

However, there is one downside: Waitrose has retained the plastic packaging, which was criticised in last year's review and resulted in a deduction in marks. Despite this, the overall quality and unique flavour profile make it a compelling choice for those seeking a festive treat.
