A new bar and restaurant will open at the Palace Buildings in Tynemouth, alongside the second Eatflix 5D cinema, with both venues ready in time for Christmas.
The Plaza, a famous building overlooking Longsands beach and the North Sea, has housed an aquarium, a toy museum, and the Beachcomber nightclub over the years before being severely damaged in a fire three decades ago. Now it is set for a new chapter as home to Eatflix and Plaza, a bar, restaurant, and garden.
Brothers behind the venture
Both venues are the latest projects from Newcastle brothers Joe and Ollie Brack, who also run Surfers next door. Plans for the second Eatflix were announced over the summer, with thousands already seeking tickets for eat-along screenings of Home Alone later this year.
Plaza's Instagram account is now live, with its first post reading: 'Something new and exciting overlooking the beautiful Longsands beach.' The post added: 'Taking inspiration from the iconic Tynemouth Plaza, a name woven into the coast’s history, we’re creating a new space in the Palace Buildings to eat, drink and enjoy the view. From drinks, cocktails and a brand new style of menu to laid back evenings over looking the North Sea, we can’t wait to welcome you. familiar name for some with a fresh new chapter.'
Opening before Christmas
Joe Brack told ChronicleLive: "Plaza is our nod to a name that holds so much history in Tynemouth. The original Plaza stood nearby until it was destroyed by fire in 1996, and generations of people have memories of spending time there. We wanted to give that name a new chapter, both for those who remember it and those discovering it for the first time."
He added: "Our Plaza will be an intimate bar and kitchen with a side garden, overlooking the beautiful Longsands Beach, alongside Eatflix in Palace Buildings. We’ve put together a carefully curated food and drinks menu, with just as much thought going into the décor, lighting and atmosphere. We want Plaza to feel welcoming for everyone, somewhere you come in and stay a little longer than planned."
Joe also said: "Plaza and Eatflix will be ready on the coast in time for Christmas, and we hope everyone in North Tyneside is as excited as we are. We’re working around the clock to get everything ready and can’t wait to welcome everyone."
