Tesco shopper slams 'ridiculous' prices on everyday essentials

A Tesco shopper has voiced her frustration over the rising cost of everyday groceries, saying she now dreads food shopping. Charlotte Deering, known as @themoneyferret on Instagram, regularly shares money-saving tips with her 126,000 followers, but a recent trip to the supermarket left her stunned by the price hikes.

In a video posted to her account, Charlotte highlighted the cost of coffee, expressing disbelief at a jar of Kenco on sale for £8.35. She recalled buying it for around £3 in the past and called the increase 'complete madness'. She also noted that a refill pack was £5.25, while Nescafe was priced at £7.25, with Tesco labelling it as price-matched to Aldi.

The influencer went on to point out other items, including Tesco's own Extra Virgin Olive Oil at £5.55 for a smaller bottle and £7 for a larger one, Heinz Tomato Ketchup at £3.65, and Hellmann's Light Mayo at £3.75. She said she felt the same about Bisto gravy at £3.95 for 300g, adding that she would not pay that amount.

However, she was most shocked by the price of Kellogg's cereal, which was listed at £4.25. She also mentioned hearing that beef mince now costs £7.19 for 750g, and said she was glad she did not look at it. Concluding her video, she said she dreads going food shopping and described the prices as 'ridiculous'.

Followers responded with similar experiences, with one saying they could easily spend £25 on just olive oil, Lurpak and eggs, while another said beef mince had become too expensive to buy regularly. Some suggested buying supermarket own-brand alternatives to save money, and one person mentioned bringing olive oil back from Spain instead of wine.
