Tesco and Waitrose are recalling Baxters Chef Selections Cullen Skink soup after a manufacturing fault that could cause the can to swell and rupture. Customers have been urged not to eat the product and to dispose of it carefully.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a recall alert for the product in England and Wales. The agency said: "A manufacturing fault has occurred which may result in spoilage causing unpleasant odour and flavour, swelling and possible rupture of the can."

The FSA advised: "If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, dispose of the full can and product without opening. Carefully place the full can in a bag and dispose of it in an external bin."

Why products are recalled
When there is a problem with a food product, it may be withdrawn, meaning it is taken off the shelves, or recalled, when customers are asked to return the product. The FSA issues recall notices to inform consumers and local authorities about problems with certain food. Sometimes a Food Alert for Action is issued, providing local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.
