Jon Dow Distribution, a well-known Scottish fish and chip supplier operating for nearly 25 years, has gone into administration following a prolonged decline in trade. The Forfar-headquartered firm served customers across seven delivery routes, reaching towns and cities including Inverness, Elgin, Fraserburgh, Aberdeen, Montrose, Dundee, Fife and Perth.
Company Background and Operations
The business, owned by Colin Muir and Joan Muir, was established in 2002 as J.D.R. B Ltd and traded under the name Jon Dow Distribution. It provided an extensive range of products typically used by fish and chip outlets, including frozen black and white puddings, pies, burgers, fish fillets, ribs and pizzas. The wholesaler had grown to serve more than 160 businesses.
The family-run firm prided itself on offering a personal service, with next-day deliveries five days a week. Its four temperature-controlled vans would even see drivers put deliveries straight into customers' fridges and freezers if they were not available to receive them. In addition to food items, it supplied catering essentials such as cooking oils, batter mixes and sauces, as well as chilled bacon and cheese, pickles, food packaging and takeaway essentials.
Liquidation and Staff Impact
All five staff members have been made redundant, which directors said was "with regret". Interpath's Geoff Jacobs and Alistair McAlinden were appointed joint liquidators on October 26 and will handle the winding down of the company. Their duties include marketing the firm's assets for sale, among them four delivery vehicles.
Workers who have lost their jobs are receiving help with claims through the UK Government's insolvency support scheme. A spokesperson for Interpath confirmed that employees are being supported by the joint liquidators with applications to the UK Government's insolvency service. Interpath will reach out to creditors left out of pocket by the failed business in the coming weeks regarding the liquidation process.
