A father from Preston, Lancashire, has saved over £60 on his Sainsbury’s shop by using a simple scanner trick that is now being copied by other shoppers. Elliot Jeory, 39, discovered that some items were marked down in the store’s system but not on the shelf labels.
In a video that has garnered nearly 300,000 views, Jeory showed how he scanned a box of Aero mint chocolate bars priced at £2.50 on the shelf, only to find the scanner showed a single bar cost 50p. He bought 12 bars for £6 instead of £30. Similarly, KitKats marked at £2.20 scanned at 22p each, allowing him to buy 20 for £4.40 rather than £44.
Jeory, who does not eat chocolate himself, said he planned to give most of the items away. He captioned his post “Chocolate bargains” and noted that the combined savings from the two purchases totalled £63.60.
The hack has inspired other shoppers to try it themselves. One commenter reported getting 24 salted caramel profiteroles for 2p, while another claimed to have bought a £20 orchid for just 1p. Jeory also shared a second video revealing further bargains, including camembert, Baileys pouring cream, and fig brandy cream for 1p each, as well as custard creams for 7p and chocolate oranges for 15p.
Jeory advised shoppers to use the store’s self-scanners to check prices, as many reductions are not updated on shelf labels. He suggested that the items could be regifted for Easter, but warned that prices change daily while stocks last.
