Primark is selling a £7 backpack that meets the hand luggage size requirements of EasyJet, Jet2 and TUI, offering a combination of style and practicality for travellers. The Packaway Backpack is available in several colours and patterns, including plain black, brown, blue and leopard print.
All versions of the bag feature a space-saving design that allows it to fold into a compact pouch. The fashion chain described it online as "a space-saving wonder" that is suitable for "unexpected shopping trips or travel adventures". It added: "It combines understated style with smart functionality. The adjustable straps offer customised comfort, while the roomy main compartment and front zip pocket keep your essentials organised. When not in use, this savvy accessory transforms into a small tote, ready to stash until your next spontaneous outing."
Airline Compliance Details
According to Primark's product description, the full-sized bag measures 42cm x 28cm x 13.5cm, making it compliant with the hand luggage policies of EasyJet, Jet2 and TUI. The bag is fully compliant for stowing under the seat on these airlines. However, the backpack is roughly 2cm too long for Ryanair, which allows a maximum of 40cm x 30cm x 20cm. Primark notes that travellers might be able to squeeze it past security by underpacking the bag.
The airline limits are as follows: EasyJet allows up to 45cm x 36cm x 20cm, Jet2 allows up to 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, and TUI allows up to 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. The Primark bag is fully compliant with all three. Ryanair's limit is 40cm x 30cm x 20cm, and the bag is not compliant unless underpacked.
Storage and Additional Product
When not in use, the empty bag can be folded down into a compact cube that can be stored in a drawer. Primark advises shoppers to always double-check their airline and ticket type for specific allowances, especially if flying out with one airline and returning with another, as being caught out could result in an unexpected fee at the airport.
Primark is also selling a Vacuum Travel Backpack for £35, which features a vacuum compartment to compress clothing and save space. The chain described it as ideal for "weekends away, overnight stays, or hand luggage packing". It is available in stores across the UK, but stock is selling fast, so shoppers are advised to use the stock checker or pay ahead for click-and-collect to avoid a wasted trip.
