Primark Opens New Store in Former Debenhams in Ashford

Budget clothing brand Primark is set to open a new store in a former Debenhams property in Ashford, Kent. The 29,000-square-foot store will be the first Primark in the town, located in the County Square shopping centre, which has seen several closures in recent years.

The opening is expected in the second half of 2027. Primark confirmed the store will fill both the former Debenhams lot and a neighbouring storefront that once hosted Select. This will be the seventh Primark chain store in Kent.

Primark's UK Retail Director, Kari Rodgers, said: "We know there's been a lot of demand for us to bring Primark to Ashford, so we're pleased to confirm plans to open in County Square later next year. With the demand for great value clothing higher than ever, we're looking forward to bringing our offer to the town and becoming part of the local community."

Boost for Local Shopping Centre

Primark is one of more than 45 planned new stores in the shopping centre, with brands like New Look and Next also opting to open stores in Ashford. County Square's centre manager, Stacey Bell, welcomed the addition, saying: "We are thrilled County Square will be the new home for Primark in Ashford. The brand's arrival is a fantastic boost for the shopping centre, providing more choice of fashion, beauty and homeware for shoppers whilst supporting and creating jobs for our local community."

Bell added: "We are working hard behind the scenes to transform the space ready for fit-out and opening next year. We predict the new store will also attract shoppers to County Square from further afield and are confident Primark's opening and presence will strengthen our vibrant retail mix."

Debenhams, the centre's former flagship store, closed in January 2020, while Select closed four years later. An official opening date for the new Primark location has yet to be announced.
