Holidaymakers in the UK are spending an average of £158 on beauty, hair, and skincare treatments before their summer trips, according to a survey by buy now pay later provider Clearpay. The research, conducted by OnePoll among 2,000 people across the UK in July, found that 76% of men and 82% of women plan to treat themselves to a makeover before jetting off.
Average Spending Rises for Popular Destinations
The average pre-holiday beauty budget of £158 includes spending on both at-home products and professional services, such as haircuts and facials. For those heading to France or Italy, the average spend rises to £206, while travellers to the United States budget £237 on average.
Popular Treatments and Motivations
Among the most popular pre-holiday upgrades, 25% of men said they would get a new haircut, compared to 22% of women. Hair colouring, facials, and manicures or pedicures were also common choices. The survey revealed that 44% of people are motivated to look their best while on holiday, while 37% prioritise feeling their best. Nearly a fifth (18%) enjoy trying new beauty products and treatments specifically for their trip.
Sales Data Shows Rising Trends
Clearpay also analysed its own sales volumes across the UK, comparing the 12 months to mid-June with the previous year. It found significant increases in sales of teeth whitening products (up 37%), wax strips (up 23%), and body bronzer oil (up 21%).
