Nigella Lawson has incorporated a new business called Bar Nigella Limited, according to Companies House records. The company, set up on March 12 this year, is registered for the wholesale of wine, beer, spirits and other alcoholic beverages.
Company details
The 66-year-old chef and television presenter is listed as a director of the firm and has completed all government verification requirements. The other director is Alexander Fane, CEO of the events and management company Fane. A Fane email address is listed on Nigella's own website as the point of contact for business enquiries.
While the company was incorporated more than six months ago, little further information is available. It remains unclear what the public name of the business will be and whether it will operate as Bar Nigella.
Background and career
Incorporation is the process by which a new or existing business registers as a limited company, and a business cannot operate as one until it has been incorporated at Companies House.
Nigella studied medieval and modern languages at Oxford University before working as a journalist and publishing her first cookbook in 1998. She rose to fame with her first Channel 4 television show, Nigella Bites, and has since become a regular presence on screen. She was announced as a new judge on The Great British Bake Off in January, with the next episode of series 13 airing on Tuesday, October 13.
Industry trend
If the venture goes ahead, Nigella will join celebrities such as David Beckham, Snoop Dogg, Gary Barlow and Tom Holland, who have all entered the alcoholic drinks industry. DJ Charlie Sloth also invested in Swansea-based spirits firm Au Vodka, which was recently sold. Nigella has been contacted for comment.
