Nabzy's Liverpool takeaway to open new Smithdown Road store

Nabzy's, the Liverpool-based chicken and pizza chain, is opening a new store on Smithdown Road in Toxteth, taking over the former home of DeNiro's. The new location will be the brand's ninth in Liverpool, with a tenth already planned for Birkenhead.

Expansion continues

Nabeel Tabarik, who founded Nabzy's in 2016 on Leece Street, confirmed the news to the ECHO. He said: “Smithdown Road has always been a store we’ve wanted, and now we’ve finally made it happen. This will be our ninth store in Liverpool, with our next location in Birkenhead already in the works, bringing us to number ten in the area.”

The brand has grown rapidly since its inception, now with over 14 sites across the North West, including in Waterloo, Norris Green, Anfield, Manchester, and Chorley. It has gained a cult following among students and has been endorsed by several high-profile celebrities.

Community support

Nabeel expressed gratitude for the support from Liverpool residents, saying: “The support we’ve received from the people of Liverpool means so much to us. They’ve always welcomed us and supported what we’re building, and we genuinely love the Scousers. We feel like part of the community, and they have a way of making you feel at home. For us, Liverpool is the best city in the world.”

He also highlighted friendships with local celebrities who have supported the brand, including Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett, Natasha Jonas, Shem Rock, and Paul Smith and his brothers.

A journey from humble beginnings

Reflecting on the brand's journey, Nabeel said: “We started a long time ago as just kids, really. We started opposite the Bombed Out Church and rocketed from there.” He noted that the business grew organically through hard work and community support, saying: “We were on four sites for many years, but the interest just came, and then we were able to open more. When celebrities and influencers start taking a like to your brand, the whole city gets behind you.”

Nabeel also emphasised the importance of serving deprived areas, saying: “A lot of areas, where our shops are, are in deprived areas, and we come from these same places. We grew up here and were brought up in council estates ourselves, so to see people spend their hard-earned money here, trying to feed their children and families, it means we need to try our best to get it right. They need to get their money’s worth.”
